THE AVENGERS

April 27, an epic day for a movie geek like me... Just watched The Avengers on 3D! It was Legen... Wait for it... Dary!!! Hehehe! Too bad though that it wasn't on IMAX, just a regular 3D in SM Mall of Asia (MOA). It's kind of a long story how I ended up there but still more than happy to have seen the most awesome movie of the century, as in really psyched. Seriously an unforgettable experience. I think five generations after me would still be talking about how wicked The Avengers is. Hats off to director Joss Whedon! I mean dude, putting together four amazing Marvel movies into one is not a piece of cake. Trust me, it's easier to climb a wall with your face. Hehehe! What more can I say? I loved the story, how all the superheroes were connected, and how each of their individual stories came together. It was really like the best mash-up and cross-over in history. The transition was smooth and the build-up was amazing. It really got me at the edge of my seat. The dialogue, ah the dialogue.... Another genius move by Joss Whedon. Seriously, this guy's amazing... What else can't he not do? I but he can ride a motorcycle and jump over ten monster trucks. Exaggerating? Yah, pretty much. ^^ With co-writer Zak Penn, they wrote the most epic screenplay ever. It was the perfect combination of subtle but over the top hilarious comedy and touching hero sentiments. Yah, scriptwriting like a boss. The effects were also spot on, especially with the alien monsters and stuff. It was a little over the level of the Krakken in Clash of the Titans, scary but amusing. Hmm... What else? Ooh! The cast. So loved that everyone reprised their role... Well, almost everyone. But I'll get to that later. Moving on to the cast... I'm gonna mention them in ranking, from my most favorite to the least.

Dating back when I was a kid, I loved watching his cartoons. Poorly animated with only the lips and backgrounds moving but still, I thought it was awesome. I couldn't understand most of the lyrics but sometimes I would sing along with the opening theme. It actually has a pretty, catchy tune. Aah... Nice childhood memories. Let me sing some... "Captain America throws his mighty shiiiiieeeeelllllddddd!" Yah, there's a long emphasis on the shield part. Hehehe! Initially, I was more of a DC fan... A Batman fanatic. But after movies like The Incredible Hulk, Iron Man, Thor, and Captain America: The First Avenger were released, I suddenly flipped my switch. Don't get me wrong, I'm like Batman for life man. But let's face it, Marvel may not have Superman but their movies are way beyond super. You don't have to be a comic geek to enjoy it. Really nice Disney! ^^ So Captain America... I loved how Chris Evans portrayed him, he gave him a lot of heart. It's really awesome how he became somewhat of a leader to the Avengers, giving out instructions and strategies what not. His Nazi-fighting war days really payed off. Good thing his 70-year hibernation didn't affect his hero swag. I think of all of them, he has the most sensitive and gentlest soul. Yah, far better off than being the jerky Johnny Storm. I don't know if it's just me (It's probably me) but the good boy, noble persona suits Chris Evans quite well. I mean, he does have the face of an angel with a heavenly body to boot. Hurr-durr! ^^ I wonder what would happen if Thanos and Galactus gets the crazy idea to team-up and destroy New York city (Not like villains would want to invade anywhere else)? I bet they're gonna make such a huge mess that the Fantastic Four would have to be called to help the Avengers clean it all up. Would it be awkward if Captain America and Human Torch meet and realize they have the same face? Sounds like a super nova. Hehehe! But I bet Captain America will beat him up senseless once he pulls his conceited, self-centered brat act. Yah, you can say I didn't like the Fantastic Four franchise. Hehehe! If I were Chris Evans, I'd throw Human Torch out the window and be Captain America forever. Or he can give that role to someone else like... Hmm... James Franco? ^^

Next would be the heart-throb lightning god from Asgard, Thor. Before Captain America: The First Avenger, he was my major superhero crush. I mean, when I watched his movie last year I swear that my eyes were sparkling crazy and I felt myself drooling... Especially with the blue shirt scene. Ooh the blue shirt. Thank goodness for tight, body fit blue shirts! Hahaha! ^^ You know the funny thing about that was when people who haven't seen Thor yet at that time asked how the movie was on those who did, the majority of answers were awesome story and yeah, Thor was steaming hot. Every single time. I should know 'coz I like gave the same comment. Hehehe! My brothers also heard the same thing in their office. It was like a global phenomenon. You know, if there's gonna be a battle royal and winner gets to date Thor, I bet every girl on the planet would join in... I'd train until I become a death machine. Hehehe! So the dream boat Avenger was portrayed by Chris Hemsworth. Before Thor, nobody really knew who he was. I mean people could be watching his movies and wouldn't even know he was in it. Did you know he was cast in the 2009 sci-fi movie Star Trek? I bet you didn't. He portrayed Jim Kirk's father, the one that sacrificed himself so that the rest of the crew could get away at the beginning of the movie. But I really can't blame you if you didn't recognize him. Other than his scene only lasted for I think less than 20 minutes, he really was in fact beyond recognizable. Even I was shocked when I looked into his filmography. I was like "Whoa! That was him???". If I were to compare his appearance from being space dad to lightning god... Dude! Did you like evolve or something?! Seriously! He went simply from goofy flab to sexy abs. I'd say dramatic transformation but that would be an understatement. It was such a big change in like what, a little over two years? Oh his workout is good... Real good. ^^ So besides his ridiculously gorgeous looks, I think he really did great as Thor. No really! I think his acting is more than enough to make the character work. I mean portraying a role that comes across as a viking, a Norse god, a romantic, and a superhero is not exactly a walk in the park. See, even that sounds complicated to you. Hehehe!

Third in rank is the genius, billionaire, playboy, philanthropist, Tony Stark A.K.A. Iron Man. Watched both of his Iron Man movies and thought he's way beyond cool. Like the god of pure awesomeness. Definitely toppled Barney Stinson's smooth swag a thousand times over. True story. Hehehe! I've always loved Robert Downey Jr, ever since I saw him in Ally Mcbeal. He wasn't as hunky back then but I thought he was just adorable. It was too bad though that he didn't stay long in the show, his character somewhat got cancelled 'coz of his drug problem. Yah, he was a drug addict for five years (1996 - 2001), going in and out of rehabs and at some point prison. He was quite a wreck and everyone believed his career would go way down the drain. Tough times. But I'm really glad that he got back on his feet and turned his life around. He like cleaned himself up, went back to Hollywood, and wowed everyone. Well, good thing he did otherwise we wouldn't have Iron Man. That sir is hard to imagine. Hehehe! Seriously, his life is quite an inspiration. It's not easy picking yourself up after falling down hard... It takes a real man to admit something's wrong, but a greater man to do something about it. I'm not exactly a number one fan but you bet I was one of those people that stood up and applauded when he went back to making movies. Kiss Kiss Bang Bang was a very nice comeback. Shaggy Dog... Did I say Kiss Kiss Bang Bang was a very nice comeback? Hehehe! ^^ Anyway, need I emphasize more how awesome he is as Tony Stark? Yah, he practically owned it. Like a boss! The arrogant image really suits him... It made him charming but not annoying. Unlike Captain America, he's a superhero with a naughty spunk. He's heart is in the right place but some times he kicks things a little way up a notch. Well, if every superhero was downright all goody two-shoes then the Avengers would be pretty damn boring. Am I right? ^^

Okay, we're gonna skip the superheroes 'coz going in fourth place is the baddest of the bad. Most awesome villain ever! Okay, I used to think that was Prince Nuada from Hellboy II: The Golden Army but someone just got cooler than him. But hey, he wasn't easy to let go 'coz he's been like my fave baddie since 2010. I will miss you my misguided hunk warrior elf prince... Sniff! But I'll most definitely miss you on my phone and laptop... Yah, dude's got his face plastered all over my stuff. Hehehe! What? I needed inspiration. So I'm now in for a total overhaul... Everything will be evil and green. Muahahahaha!!! Ahemm... Hmm... Anyway, I'm talking about the evil adapted brother of the lightning god, Loki. Looking back at his humble beginnings in Thor, he was quite far from the power hungry maniac who unleashed hell in The Avengers. His frost giant dad must be so proud... Wait! He killed him. Ooooh! Badness level over 9000. Hehehe! Like Prince Nuada, his intentions are originally good but the means of getting there is the "Damn! You evil" part. So the saying that the end justifies the means is not entirely true. I don't think people would look forward to being slaughtered just for them to be civilized. ^^ I always believed that if Odin hadn't answered Loki the way he did when he and Thor where hanging on the Asbru Bridge, I think Loki never would've turned black-hearted bad. Well, Loki's plan was destructive (Destroying Jotunheim and all) but I think he did it out of love. He just wanted to impress his father and be seen the same way his silver spoon fed brother has always been looked up to. Yah, it was all about being accepted and loved. So emo! Hehehe! He actually pointed that out in his confrontation scene with Thor, after he got nabbed from the plane while Captain America, Iron Man, and Black Widow were flying him to headquarters. Ah family issues, it could either turn you noble or criminal. Oh well, sound motives or not, he was really meant to be Thor's nemesis. Not only does the comics say so but Norse Mythology does. Anyway, Tom Hiddleston did an amazing job as the villain. Definitely a better performance than in Thor. Loved that he had more cam appearance and he didn't portray the character as the evil serious type, he's actually pretty dang funny. So Loki's like the antagonist you would rather love than hate... You wouldn't want him dead but instead want him to come back and wreak more havoc. If he's the end of the world, I'm getting front-row seats. Hahaha! Well besides his villainy swag, he's also quite the eye candy. Didn't I say he's taller than Benedict Cumberbatch? Dude's pretty tall man... I think he said he's 6'2''. Wow, frost giant indeed. ^^ Aah... He' so dashing while killing people... Such an angelic voice in declaring world domination... Oh that heart-melting smile when he sneered on the Avengers after he temporarily won. Gorgeous... Evil, but gorgeous. Of all those qualities, I love most is his smile... It's not one of those matinee smiles with the seductive eyes and lips naughtily curled to one side type of thing. There's just something warm, pure and innocent about it... Almost hypnotic. For some reason I could get lost looking... Into... (---STANDBY---) Ooh wow! I just did didn't I? What can I say, he has the most contagious smile. Actually so contagious that just one glimpse of it could practically make an epic crappy day seem alright. Seriously! Can't believe I missed that on Thor. I blame the blue shirt!!! Hehehe! I guess he doesn't really need a magical staff to control people. All he has to do is flash those pearly whites and I'm sure he'll have an army of willing screaming girls in no time. I'd most likely volunteer... I did hear it's for a good cause. Hehehe! ^^ Hail Loki!!!

Then we're back to superheroes... At number five, he's big, he's green, and he's really angry... Yah, I think we all know who that is. That would be no other than the Incredible Hulk or Hulk as we so fondly call him. Remember when I said that not everyone reprised their roles? Yah, Edward Norton. I used to have my money on him as the best actor to portray Bruce Banner. He was a perfect fit for the profile... Nerdy-looking, slim but slightly buffed, epitome of a real lab scientist. The first Hulk movie starring Eric Bana looked like he already grew some guns even before the gamma ray thing. Seriously?! I'm not stereotyping but since when do scientists look like they bench press while calculating atoms and stuff? No really. I mean, did the producers and writers even cross-reference the casting with the original comics? I bet not. Sigh! So glad that movie was disregarded. Even Stan Lee probably face-palmed. Anyway, like Terrence Howard and Iron Man 2... It was the cha-ching that got Edward Norton out of The Avengers franchise. Sad I know. I was actually pretty pissed when I found that out even my intestines were cursing. Yah, you should have heard the short one... Filthy mouthed little thing. ^^ But I guess it was for the best 'coz Mark Ruffalo rocked! Yah he's got abs, but he still looked like a lab genius. Okay, try and make a comparison with Eric Bana... Point stated. I loved how Mark Ruffalo made the character a little rough around the edges. Not looking like a total geek, more like a ragged science man. Yah I like that... Science man. Hehehe! The messy hair was really working out for him and the tight shirts were quite becoming. Revealing body shape approved!!! ^^ The only turn off is his speech pattern... That has always been my problem ever since I watched his first movie, I think that was Just Like Heaven. It was a combination of slow and garbled. Not that it entirely ruins his swagger... It just made him a bit hard to understand. Oh well, you can't have it all. Let's just focus on his tight shirt... I mean his awesome acting talent. O_o Okay, moving on to "the other guy", as Bruce Banner always referred to him in the movie. I guess calling the big, green thing he transforms into as "Hulk" hasn't appealed to him yet. Yah, in time. ^^ So to fit Mark Ruffalo's profile, they had to recreate the Hulk and add a few tweaks. Did you know that Hulk's built was modeled after a male body builder slash stripper named Steve Romm? Honestly, I don't know how to react to that... Oh wait, I do. It goes something like... Cannot be unseen!!! My eyes!!! They burn. TT_TT Yah, I guess imagining Hulk as a stripper and shaking his booty for some dough is quite painful. Scratch that! Excruciatingly painful. But interesting... Disturbingly interesting. Hehehe! Going back... I loved the new version of Hulk, it made him look fiercer and a tad scarier. Yah, the last one was more on the adorable side... His smash wasn't "HULK SMASH!!!". It was more like "Dear me, I must now smash". Like a sir! Hehehe! So a really huge compliment to the production team, it must've been quite hard to stay truthful to Mark Ruffalo's physical features without compromising the Hulk's monstrous image. A really amazing job. Christpoher Nolan probably needs them for The Dark Knight Rises... Have you seen Bane?! If the original Batman version were to fight Hulk, dude's probably got a chance to at least tickle the big guy. But the Bane version of The Dark Knight Rises will most likely get stuck between the Hulk's teeth. Seriously! Well, at least that's what the trailers are showing. I'm a big Batman fan and I'd be more than happy to be proven wrong. C'mon Nolan! Don't disappoint me! I know you can do it. Fingers crossed! Fingers crossed! Fingers crossed! ^^

So the rest of the Avengers are Hawkeye and Black Widow. Okay, not much excitement there... Obviously not my fave members. Not that I don't like them, it's just that... Well... They didn't leave me much of an impression. Hawkeye kinda did though... When I saw him in Thor, I was like "Really? Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye? Cool!". Not actually a fan but he always struck me as a serious actor... Especially with his role in The Hurt Locker which nominated him for Best Actor. He doesn't seem to be the kind of guy that would take on light roles, he looks like he's more into drama. Not necessarily heavy drama but can still make you a little teary nonetheless drama. Jeremy Renner as a Marvel superhero? Never really crossed my mind. I guess portraying a kick-ass archer saving the world appealed to him. ^^ What about Scarlett Johansson? Well, never really liked her for the part of Black Widow... BUT! (I am seriously emphasizing that word) Just to be clear, I'm not a Scarlett Johansson hater. I honestly think that she's a good person and a very talented actress. As Black Widow, her fighting choreography was precise and her dialogue was delivered quite nicely... I just simply didn't think that her features fitted the role. Okay, I'm specifically referring to her face. No doubt she's very beautiful but she looks a tad soft for a kick-ass agent slash assassin. I don't know, I guess she never really struck me as a tough chick. I was hoping that it would've been Keira Knightley or Zoe Saldana, any actress with spunk. Natalie Portman could've also been a good bet for the role... She has those amazing piercing eyes and sharp, strong eyebrows. Now that's tough. ^^ But in the Marvel movie world she's already known as Jane Foster, Thor's lady love, so casting her as the Black Widow will just complicate stuff. Imagine Thor meeting her and realizing Agent Natasha Romanoff looks like his Jane... Boom! The big bang. Hehehe But who knows, maybe I'll warm up to Scarlett Johansson after a few more Avenger related movies. I hope next time she keeps the long red locks, she looked a lot believable with it in Iron Man 2. The short hair just reminds me of Strawberry Shortcake. Am I right Apple Dumplin'? Hehehe! ^^ I'm sure someday they'll each have their own movies. I think every member of the Avengers deserve one... Even the sexy super villain Loki. That my friend I will certainly look forward to. Hehehe! I guess when that time comes, Joss Whedon wouldn't have to make Hawkeye and Black Widow dependent on each other. What? You didn't think that was just for the sake of a love story didn't you? My theory is that he had an inkling that the two wouldn't be able stand out on their own with legendary characters towering over them and making them somewhat invisible. So by pairing them up, he made their portrayals much stronger and more noticeable. But you know, that's just my little theory... Joss Whedon may have something else in mind. It does kinda make sense though. Doesn't it? Well, it's either that or I just found it hard to look away from the superhero hotties. Yah, most likely the latter. Hahaha! ^^

Okay, last members of the cast... After all these years since 2008 of popping into Marvel movies, he finally had a decent screen time. I was already starting to think he was some kind of mushroom. Hehehe! So Nick Fury portrayed by Samuel L. Jackson at last assembled the Avengers. It was quite the wait... Four years? But it was all worth it. I could not think of anyone that could portray Nick Fury. It seemed like Samuel L. Jackson was born for the role. Loved how he held up his character, delivered his lines and looked so badass. Hehehe! I especially loved the "Ant" and "boot" analogy he gave to Loki. Really cracked me up. What more can I say? He's just that awesome. So like Nick Fury, he also showed up in several Marvel movies except that compared to him, he had longer exposure and more dialogue. Mostly in the Iron Man movies... Agent Phil Coulson (Clark Gregg) is a hero in his own right. He didn't have the mystic powers or the super human strength but he was helpful to the Avengers nonetheless. He's like their wingman when it comes to saving the world and stuff. I thought it was adorable that he seemed to have a man-crush on Captain America. That awkward moment when he said he was watching him sleep while he was in a coma... Hehehe! I know for a fact that wasn't what he meant but you know... Some things can really come out messed up. Well, Captain America was good-natured enough to probably get what he really wanted to say. But I'm sure he got creeped out a little. Hehehe! It's just too bad though that well... In a manner of speaking this would be the last time he'd be seen in the Avengers franchise. At least that's what the scene suggested. You have no idea how my heart stopped while I was watching the whole thing. It felt like a terrible nightmare... TT_TT Can we please have a moment of silence... (---STANDBY---) Okay, moving on... So his role may not exactly be as "Oh wow cool!!!" like the others but it did make him quite memorable. Actually, memorable enough that I think the next Marvel movies wouldn't be the same without him. Sniff! Why? For the love of Humanity! Why?!!! I shall tell tales of your nobility to my children and to their children's children... Heck! It'll even be my last words when I die. So hardcore! Hehehe! But funny enough though, I didn't feel even a smidge of murder for Loki. I guess dude's too sexy to get mad at. ^^ Aside from Mark Ruffalo, Cobie Smulders is a newbie in the Marvel superhero world. So I wasn't exactly surprised when she said it was her first time attending a comic con in New York last year. Felt a tinge jealous though, she was sitting beside Tom Hiddleston during panel. Lucky girl!!! ^^ It's kinda weird though watching her as a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent, shooting people, and kicking ass... Don't get me wrong, she's cool and all but no matter how I look at her, she'll always be Robin Scherbatsky to me. Hahaha! I even read a Youtube comment on the first released trailer of The Avengers that says "Kids, it was the summer of 2012 when your Aunt Robin decided to join the Avengers." Dude! I was laughing so hard. This time, that wasn't just me. Hehehe! I guess that's the downside to portraying a memorable character, that no matter what other roles you take, people will keep reeling you back to that character. Like Tom Hiddleston, he'll always and forever will be known as Loki. Not as Captain Nicholls, not as Freddie Page, not as F. Scott Fitzgerald... Trust me, with the amount of girls going ridiculously nuts over Thor's hot misguided brother... Yah, he'll always be Loki. ^^ Funny, I've been mentioning him a lot lately... Oh dear! I think I got it bad... The Tom fever. O_o Anyway, I might not take Cobie Smulders seriously now as Maria Hill but I'm sure someday I'll get used to it... And who knows, although highly unlikely, Robin Scherbatsky may not be her dominating character anymore. Just curious though... You think Maria Hill would like Barney Stinson as her leading man? Hahaha! I kinda imagine that the moment Barney makes his move on Natasha Romanoff, Maria's gonna put a bullet to his brain. Yikes! O_o

Now with the cast done, again all I can say is this is one hell of a kick-ass movie. Definitely in the highest level of awesomeness. Nuff said! There's nothing negative I can say about it... Everything was just OMG brilliant!!! The villain, the heroes... All perfect! So it's not surprising that it got a 93% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Yah, another movie we agreed on... I guess we really are getting to know each other. ^^ But if it was me, I'd totally give it 100% as in hands down man. I'm kinda curious though who the 7% are that that would rate it rotten. They must be clearly out of their minds! Well, I read one bad review from a critic that says she thought it was boring and the ending was predictable. First reaction, I super mega face-palmed. Next reaction, I mentally flipped my desk. Dude! How stupid can you get?!!! Okay, I'll pass up on the boring bit 'coz I understand she's probably not into those superhero stuff. But c'mon! Comic geek or not... Who wouldn't wanna see Thor's muscles, Iron Man's swag, or Loki's wicked smile? Damn! Mentioned him again. ^^ I bet she's an alien! Probably a Chitaurian and got offended when her people got pommeled to a pulp. Oooh! Touchy about our extra terrestrial race are we? Zing! Hahaha! Now the part about the ending being predictable... Unforgivable!!! Blasphemy! Kill it... Kill it with fire!!! Hehehe ^^ Okay, that was a stupid ass thing to say. Especially to a comic book adaption. Of course the superheroes will win the battle in the end. Ever heard of evil never prevails? What do you expect? Bad guys killing the superheroes and plunging the world into unimaginable slavery and excruciating death? Are you insane woman?!!! Then on the string of comments at the bottom of her review, I found out that she also rated Captain America: The First Avenger as rotten while she gave The Three Stooges (2012) a thumbs up... That's it!!! You're going down!!! Rasenggan!!! Oh right... Crap! I would have loved to put a hole in her. Where are cool, super ninja powers when you need one?! Hehehe! Anyway, she's really not worth it. Based on her reviews, I don't think she really knows what she's saying and if anything, I feel bad for her poor taste in movies. Really? You'd pick slapstick over a legendary superhero? That's just sad. So, mega, awesome Joss Whedon movie... Can't wait for the next Marvel masterpiece... Oh wait! The Amazing Spider-Man will be released this coming June. Sweet! ^^

THE THREE STOOGES

Although I'm not 100% all in on Rotten Tomatoes critic reviews, I still check the site to see the latest news on movies, ratings and write-ups. Most of the time it's annoying when they give movies I love bad reviews and unreasonably low ratings... I'm like "Dude, you trollin'?" They have some very funny film standards if you ask me. But still, opinions are opinions and you cannot have the same perception as others. If that's what they think then they have every right as any other person to say or write what they want... No matter how ridiculous or mental it may be. Burn! ^^ There are days though when Rotten Tomatoes and I are on the same side. It's fun having to prove my brothers wrong about a movie and having it as my basis. Well, Rotten Tomatoes is not exactly that accurate but it can help you make a good point. Know what I mean? ^^ Yah, more like a love and hate relationship... More on hate but maybe someday we'd get to know each other better. Hehehe! Anyway, this movie I'm going to talk about is in one of those occasions that Rotten Tomatoes and I both agree... We think it sucks! Okay, maybe it's a little unfair for me to already conclude that since I haven't actually seen it. Well, one it's not showing yet in our country and two, why would I pay to watch something like that? It's a definite no. Tell you why in a bit. Acquiring 46% on Rotten Tomatoes, that movie is The Three Stooges. In fairness to the movie, it did a little better than the others released this year. Eddie Murphy's comedy-drama, A Thousand Words, got 0%. Ouch! Really that bad huh? I saw the trailer and it seems rather intriguing... Hmm... I guess I could check it out.

So The Three Stooges is a remake of the mid 20th century slapstick comedy of the same name. If you were around my age or older, you'd remember it as a show about three guys who love to whack each other. Am I right? ^^ Chris Diamantopoulos was cast to play the conceited smarts of the trio, Moe. At first look at the poster I thought it was Jim Carrey and if it was, I'd watch it with no questions asked. Yah, big fan! ^^ Okay, I know unique names are easier to remember on screen but this is ridiculous... Diamanto-whatta? I can't be the only person who thought this. Seriously! I checked his profile and was surprised to see his picture... I'm like "This dude's not half bad. He's actually pretty cute." looking back on my memories of Moe... The guy's damn ugly! Well, at least for my taste. So why cast him? Then I thought that he's probably one of those good-looking actors that are awesome in comedy like Neil Patrick Harris. Barney Stinson is a legend! He's got some nice, sweet swag. Hehehe! I looked up his comedic TV and film appearances and found that he portrayed a gay interior designer in The Starter Wife, guest voiced in American Dad and... That's about it. So far, that's his only takes on comedy I could recognize. Okay, a guy with a miniscule background in comedy is cast as Moe in The Three Stooges? Oh no they didn't! What were the producers thinking? But wait! I got curious when I read he portrayed Robin Williams in Behind the Camera: The Unauthorized Story of Mork & Mindy and thought to look it up on youtube. It's some kind of mini-drama on how the late 70's sci-fi sitcom, Mork & Mindy, came to be. I thought that was weird 'coz no one can portray Robin Williams than Robin Williams. Deal with it! Big fan. Hehehe! I watched a few scenes then compared it to an episode of Mork & Mindy with the real Robin Williams and... I thought that Chris Diamantopoulos did a pretty convincing performance and definitely looked the part (As you can quite see) but somehow I felt he overdid it. Just to be clear, that wasn't exactly a compliment. When I said he over did it, I meant that his acting seemed quite obvious and a bit of a trying-hard. He has this unnecessary movements that made him really corny. Well I can't really blame him, Robin Williams is a gigantic shoe to fill in. Nice try though. Anyway, I may not have been a fan but I noticed he does have some quirky, entertaining gestures which I think got him in The Three Stooges. Yup, it's slapstick alright. ^^ I'm not sure if this is true to everyone but in their trio, I've always thought Larry was second in command. I guess next to Moe he's considered as one of them that has a brain. Well, barely. His character is my second favorite and Moe as the least. I didn't really like Moe that much 'coz I thought he was too mean to the other two. So does that make Curley my stooge favorite? Plausible deduction, but I'm afraid your conclusions are incorrect. Hahaha! Sherlock swag is nice. ^^ But I'll get on to that later. So who portrayed the stooge with the bald spot and curly locks? Honestly I was quite surprised by this 'coz I didn't expect him to accept such project after his performance in Will & Grace and The Bucket List. He seemed like a really classy person and slapstick is not his kind of comedy. Who is it? It's Sean Hayes! Knowing his comical swagger, I believe that he pulled it off. I think he's the most convincing character of the three. I just don't quite like how his expressions emphasized his forehead wrinkles. It made him look a tad older and stressful than he should. So, last of the cast is of course the one who portrayed the total nut job of the stooges... Will Sasso as Curley. Not the first time I've seen him 'coz I used to watch him in Less than Perfect many years ago. Ahh... Chuck, before you were a clueless spy. Memories. Hehehe! I've nothing against Will Sasso since I've always known him to be really funny. The thing is that he doesn't look anything like Curley... Okay, except for the bald head. But what I'm saying is that he doesn't exactly... How do I put this? Umm... He doesn't look that stupid. First look at the original Curley, bam!!! You know he's a bumbling idiot. But with Will Sasso... I don't know, I guess I don't look at his face as a representation of a nincompoop. Actually, taking out the weird noise and what the hell are you doing moves, he seemed rather smart in a suit. But if you were to ask me who's the perfect guy to play Curley... I'd say Matt Lucas, hands down man. Ever seen Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland? Yeah! Nuff said. ^^

Okay, like I said earlier I haven't watched The Three Stooges and all this are based on some Rotten Tomatoes reviews and trailers released. So yah, basically an initial review... I doubt I'd change my mind even if I watch the whole thing. But if you think otherwise and fancy this as the mega movie of the year then that's fine. People are entitled to their own opinions. I'm just stating mine, that's all. ^^ Anyway, I think I have two hanging questions to answer... Let's start with why I would not watch this movie, ever! Well, unless I get out voted by my family and have it for movie night... I have no family. Hehehe! Just kidding. As I was saying... For me there are movies or shows that are perfect just the way they are and doesn't need to be remade. It doesn't matter if it's already been years or even centuries... If it's awesome just as it is then why redo it? I think you'd agree if I say that movies like Mary Poppins, The Sound of Music, Gone with the Wind, Casablanca, and Gigi could not get any better. Already perfect. And that's how I feel with the Three Stooges... Regardless if it was in black and white, the effects were low-tech, and cameras used were old school, I think it's genius just the way it is. Call me melodramatic and sentimental but that's how I want to remember the wacky trio. Last question now is... Who is my fave stooge? Hmm... Is it Moe? Nope. Larry? He's my number two favorite. Curley? Definitely not!!! Who then? Well, in reality he was the original third member but was replaced by Curley after he left in 1932. Fourteen years later, Curley had a debilitating stroke on set and had to temporarily retire. They couldn't find any replacement so they asked him to return for the role and he did. Who is he? It's Shemp! You probably haven't heard of him since he wasn't as popular as the stooge that goes around in circles and make those woot-woot sounds. But I guarantee that he was way funnier and more entertaining. Quick facts, in real life he's Moe's big brother and he was once called the ugliest man in Hollywood. Harsh! But with the paychecks he got for being a stooge, I bet he didn't give a beeswax. So that's about it... Generally, the 2012 version of the Three Stooges doesn't interest me and I'm strongly sticking to the original version. I wasn't pleased with the trailers and felt the movie was over-bearing with trying-hard comedy. What do you expect from a movie aspiring to live up to an enormous shadow cast by the epic Three Stooges? Original rules!!!

WILFRED

Last day of my long holiday (I'm not Catholic but hallelujah for the Lenten Season! ^^), I was able to take a peek at the latest sitcom on Jack TV. Well, when it comes to shows I only go to two cable channels, either that or Star World. Actually there isn't really much to choose from... Rural cable operator and all. But still grateful, definitely grateful... I would've probably gone mad without it. I can't imagine watching corny, poor-written soap operas on local channels. Yeesh! I cringe at the thought. I think one week of it will burn my brain dead or turn me into a zombie... Braaaaaiiiiiiins!!! Hehehe! Anyway, Wilfred is originally an Australian sitcom created by Tony Rogers, Adam Zwar, and Jason Gann. Aired on SBS One on 2007, the TV series ran for two season with 16 episodes. It tells a funny story of an unusual dog named Wilfred that appears as a man in a dog suit to his owner's boyfriend but to other people, he's just an ordinary furball dog. Pretty messed up right? If you're thinking it's probably acid... I'm agreeing with you pal! Hehehe! Wilfred is best described as a dog with insecurities and has the tendency of being manipulative. But the most ridiculous thing, other than having these human issues, is that he smokes pot, huff ciggies, drinks beer, eats junk food, talks trash and... Gets kinky? Sorry, it's the only PG term I could think of. Hehehe! I guess an obnoxious dog with serious vice problems appealed to Americans 'coz by 2010 the US version was filmed and then released on June 23, 2011 via FX channel with Jason Gann reprising his role as Wilfred. Oh yah, I forgot to mention that. So other than being one of the co-creators, Jason Gann is cast as the main star of the show... The guy in the dog suit. ^^ I guess no one else was suited for the part... Get it?! Suited for the part! I mean a guy in a dog suit then I said suited for the part... (---TUMBLEWEED---) Tough crowd. Anyway, Elijah Wood portrays Ryan Newman, a depressed unsuccessful lawyer and neighbor of Wilfred's owner, Jenna (Fionna Gubelmann). Ryan was on the verge of committing suicide when Jenna asks him to care of her dog Wilfred and was shocked to see it was a guy in a dog suit. Well, duh! I'd probably react the same. At first it was rather nutty between the two with Wilfred's manipulative and over-protective attitude, and Ryan's blue funk. But eventually, Ryan got used to the fact that he's talking to a supposed to be dog and even have him as his somewhat mentor, helping him decide against suicide and teaching him to live life his way. Wow! Wilfred is probably one hell of a motivational speaker. Hehehe! It's really interesting how their relationship goes... Not exactly your typical man's best friend kind of thing. More like depressed dude meets happy bum guy. Awesome! ^^ Although it hasn't been really suggested in the first season, I have a feeling that Jenna will be romantically linked to Ryan in the next episodes. Okay, not really a hunch but I'm pretty sure about it. I think watching like a bajillion shows and movies can already make you realize trends and patterns. Just to make it clear, the term is not couch potato but media enthusiast. What? Big difference! As I was saying... The probability is quite high 'coz why else would you cast a sexy, beautiful actress to be the neighbor with the dog? An old wrinkly, woman would've been just fine (Betty White isn't a bad idea) or a random dude. So why come up with that casting if the writer or producer didn't foresee a potential love story? Am I right? Really makes sense if you ask me.

I'm not quite sure what episode I watched last Monday (April 9) on Jack TV but it was pretty funny. I had no idea that's how you play Play-Doh... Pfft! hilarious! ^^ At first I felt the concept of a guy in a dog suit acting and appearing like a real dog to people except to Elijah Wood's character was a bit strange. But by the middle of the episode I kinda warmed up to it and thought it was amusing. I so love the Aussie accent of Wilfred. Makes him funnier than he already looks. Huh? Actually no, I didn't feel too bad that it took almost a year before it was aired on Asian cable. Well unlike Sherlock, I didn't see myself being interested... Not exactly my cup of tea. Saw the commercial a while back and I was like "Meh!" then "Ooh! Elijah Wood." and after that "Meh!". Hehehe! But I guess there's more to Wilfred than it actually seems. I'm not a fan yet but I do look forward to watching future episodes to see how the story goes. Plus, I like the idea of often seeing our familiar cute, little hobbit. It's not everyday you see Elijah Wood in normal height (Okay, not that normal since he's shorter than average guys but still...), no foot hair, and not simply walking to Mordor. Hehehe! He's just as adorable and charming portraying a normal person. ^^ It's actually nice that more stars do TV series like Chevy Chase (The Community), Dax Shepard (Parenthood), Craig T. Nelson (Parenthood), Andie Macdowell (Jane by Design), Zooey Deschanel (New Girl), Josh Lucas (The Firm), etc. But I'm not really sure if that's a good thing. It's awesome that you'd get to watch them often, like on a day-to-day basis and not just on a one to two-hour film. More exposure to the public and what not. But could it also imply that the film industry is slowly going down? I watched a news feature a while back that says as movies nowadays are being conveniently downloaded online for free, less and less people prefer paying for the cinemas. Which means... If movie no earn millions, no much money pay for making new movie and if no budget for new movie, no project for movie stars. Sorry, but that's the simplest way I could explain it. But you have to admit, that was pretty funny. Hehehe! So could it be true that because fewer people watch movies, less are being made, and Hollywood stars are forced to cast in TV shows? Probable notion if I might say so... Nah! With movies being released this year like The Avengers, The Hobbit:An Unexpected Journey, Men In Black 3, Dark Knight Rises, Brave... Who'd think the film industry is in trouble. If I'd know any better, right now it's like the bomb man! Oh yeah!!! ^^ Gonna watch The Avengers on April 27 on IMAX 3D! Woohoo! So excited. Hehehe

WAR HORSE

So we have another Spielberg here... Wow! I think I'm on a Steven Spielberg roll. Hehehe! But this time it's a live-action epic war movie. Originally I had no intention of watching it... With the Saving Private Ryan memories and all. Yeesh! I think I had nightmares for weeks. Body parts flying everywhere, blood all over the place, soldiers getting shot at, war and what not. For a ten year old, that was almost like torture and I've only seen the first part. Imagine if I've actually finished it... Torture I say!!! But in fairness to me, I think if I were to watch that movie again now that I'm older, I wouldn't be as squeamish or scared... I'll just probably miss a couple of scenes, covering my eyes and all. What? I didn't say that I was that brave. Hehehe! ^^ Anyway, so the movie is War Horse and like Hugo, was also nominated in the 84th Academy Awards... Six nominations in total, including Best Picture and Best Original Score brought by the brilliant compositions of Mr. John Williams. They really are a dynamic duo, aren't they? ^^ The movie is based on a children's novel of the same name written by British author Michael Morpurgo. He wrote the novel in 1982 after being inspired by stories of World War I (WWI) veterans and a young boy who seem to have a close relationship with a horse. So putting all those together, he came up with a story about a young farmboy from Devon who against all odds searches for his beloved horse after being separated when the war broke out. Yes a simple story but I thought it was really nice, very touching actually. I guess the struggles of both the boy and the horse to be reunited is what makes it all exciting. The book was then adapted for a stage play in 2007 which writers Richard Hall and Lee Curtis mostly used for the film's screenplay.

Steven Spielberg was quite amazing turning a children's novel into an epic movie. He was definitely in his element, so in the zone... Need I say more? Genius!!! ^^ I was quite impressed with the cinematography, texture's very clean and precise. The introduction was simple, no fancy unnecessary effects whatsoever. I loved the build-up of the story although a bit slow at first but as the movie progressed it became more and more exciting. The pacing was perfect, I was able to follow through the story from beginning to end. The transition was smooth from scene to scene. The only time I was confused was when my brother suggested that the French girl was alive and there's probably gonna be a romantic connection between her and the main character. Believe me, I was making the Jackie Chan meme expression the whole time. Seriously, I had no idea where that came from. I guess I'm better at getting dialogues than he does. So much win for me! Hehehe! Ahemm... Yah sadly the little French girl did die. Too bad and I thought she was so cute and adorable. I knew it from the moment her grandfather said that riding the horse was gonna kill her and when the German soldier found her bottle of medicine. Sorry, major spoiler for those who haven't watched it yet. O_o Anyway, the story was told brilliantly and I didn't find any dull moments. Every scene was engaging and I couldn't even let myself blink for one moment. It was really an explosion of emotions... At first I'd be "Wow!" then I'd be "Aaaw!" and next minute I'd be "Oh the humanity!!! Why?!!!". Yah, I could get a little melodramatic sometimes. Hehehe! I guess the only downside was some of the dialogues were a bit inaudible. Especially the main character's speech pattern... He sounded a bit like Patrick Star. No seriously! I don't know if he really talks that way or he's just doing that to add effect to the farmboy persona. For whichever reason, it really made him sound like a cartoon character. I mean, Dude what gives? Before I move on to the cast, I'd like to proudly say that I didn't cover my eyes even once (Well, almost at the beginning) and never missed a scene. I couldn't believe it either... A Spielberg war movie that I finished from beginning to end? Brilliant, ridiculously brilliant! We should celebrate!!! Yey! Hehehe So on to the cast... I'd say it's almost an all-star cast since I recognized most of the characters and mighty great ones too. Even the horse had some mad acting skills. Wicked! ^^ Jeremy Irvine was given the lead role of Albert Narracott while Emily Watson portrayed his mother, Rose Narracott. I wasn't familiar with the actor that played Albert's father but I wikied that his name is Ted Mullan. I'd probably recognize him as the Yaxley character in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part I if I was able to watch it. Yah, not exactly a fan. ^^ Other actors include David Thewlis (Lyons, the Narracott's landlord), Tom Hiddleston (Captain Nicholls), David Kross (Private Gunther Schröder), Niels Arestrup (Little French girl's grandfather), Celine Buckens (Emilie, the little French Girl), Toby Kebbell (Colin, the South Shields soldier), Eddie Marsan (Sergeant Fry) and... Remember when I said that I originally didn't want to watch this movie? Well, he's the main reason why I did. Would you like to guess? The clue is in my older posts... It is no other than the actor behind the modern version of Sherlock Holmes, Benedict Cumberbatch. I was on my toes for his first appearance... I felt like a school girl waiting for her crush to pass by. Hahaha! High school memories. ^^ Well, when he did appear it was really worth the wait. Tall, handsome, dashing in his military uniform... Such a dream boat. But I wasn't too crazy about his mustache though, it looked a bit... Umm... Let's just say he looks better with a clean, hair-free face. He portrayed Major Jamie Stewart, Captain Nicholl's ranking officer. I loved the scene when they had a cavalry rehearsal for their attack on the German camp. It was some kind of a race and although he lost, he lost like a sir! Oh Major Stewart, in my heart you won a bajillion times... Whatever number that may be. Hahaha! ^^ Too bad that his appearance wasn't that long... Probably less than 20 minutes and I wasn't even sure what happened to him afterwards. He kinda seemed to have a longer exposure than Tom Hiddleston... Well, that could've probably just been my mind watching his scenes in slow motion. Does that count as a super power? Hahaha! At least what happened to Captain Nicholls wasn't as speculative... I could say this much, winning the cavalry rehearsal didn't do him any good. Ouch! Ouch indeed. Although it was a lost cause, inwardly I kept wishing that Benedict Cumberbatch's character would appear again by the middle or end of the movie. But to no avail... I guess he wasn't held that long as a prisoner. Oh I shiver at the morbid thought... My brave Major Stewart!!! Hehehe! What is surprising though was when Tom Hiddleston and Benedict Cumberbatch stood side by side... Guess who's taller? Tom! Outrageous right? He didn't even seem that tall in Thor. Mind=Blown. ^^ But in fairness to him, he's almost as cute and dashing as Benedict. It was quite refreshing seeing him as one of the good guys and not the baddy son of Odin that turned out to be an adopted frost giant. Comic geeks rule! Hehehe! So I thought he deserved a little recognition so I put him up for Star of the Month. Yey! ^^

Before I end this post I'd like to mention that My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic did a crossover in the movie. No seriously, an actual crossover. But of course not like Who Framed Roger Rabbit kind of thing. Well, not only was it the funniest scene ever but it proved that a horse/pony can bring out the magic of friendship. Imagine a German and British soldier working together just to free a horse in no man's land then becoming actual friends with the hand shake and everything... Very touching moment. In all the war movies I've seen, (I assure you it's not much) I don't think there was anything like it. Really, really fun to watch. I was seriously singing the MLP theme song, my second national anthem. I'm sure the brony herd would agree... Buck yeah!!! ^^ Hehehe!
